Three amazing months in England and I'm finally home to the cold! I am so lucky to have the opportunity to spend my winters with John and Laura Renwick, John spends so many hours teaching me both at home and at shows and trusts me with so many youngsters. A real highlight again this year for me was riding at Royal Windsor Horse Show and coming 2nd in the grade B&C championship with I.C. who is owned by Sue Clark. I am extremely grateful to Sue for allowing me to ride I.C. for those 3 months, I learned a huge amount with him and he was a lot of fun as well. It's always hard to leave both the horses and people in England and John and Laura have both done so much for me over the past few years but its also great to come home. I always feel slightly torn once my 3 months is up! Now that I am home and acclimatising I'm looking forward to getting my own team fit and ready. I have some very exciting youngsters to bring out this year as well as some lovely ones that will be coming up for sale in the spring. I'm very excited to see what this season brings!

We have had a fantastic year, and I certainly couldn't have done any of it without my incredible support team behind me!

Pauline and Barry's Westgrove GNZ(Baz) was a bit of a star again this year winning a lot of his mini prix starts and finishing his season winning the 1.30-40m National Championship and winning the opening 1.40m class at HOY. I am so looking forward to next season with the big guy and we are hoping to step up to the Grand Prixs!

My oversize pocket rocket Lakota was super consistent this season winning a huge number of classes and ending up 2nd in the National 1.20-30m National Championship. Unfortunately I sold him right before HOY as the perfect home and rider came up. While I'm so sad not to have my Mr Consist on the team next year I'm also really excited to see what him and Sophie can do next year. Already they were 4th in the 1.20-25 champ at the series finals show!

Ngahiwi Double Cross also had a great year stepping up and jumping consistently around the 6year old classes. He was 3rd in the Sth Island 6year old and 4th in the National 6year old classes. Looking forward to what he brings to the table next year stepping up to jump 7year old classes.

I was lucky enough to sell some lovely horses this year and it was great to see them go to fantastic homes and I love getting updates from their new owners. Mr Tambourine Man has had a change of codes and is showing tonnes of potential as a serious event horse. It was great to watch Reid'n'Dale Oakley at Hoy in his 1.10 classes looking so happy, he is forming a great partnership with Kallindi and they have an exciting future together! I also loved watching Elmo (who I sold before last season) looking beautiful in the level 4 dressage. He's such a spunky boy and Sophie is doing an incredible job producing him. We have some more lovely horses coming through next season so watch this space!

Moore's Riding Wear

I feel very fortunate to have picked up two new sponsors this season. Moore's Riding Wear make absolutely beautiful jackets, shirts and other accessories. I've been riding in both the Mocca and Black stretch jackets and I love the flattering fit and they are so comfortable to ride in! 4Cyte have also come on board and I'm really excited to start promoting their products. I've been using 4cyte since I was in young riders and I believe it is such a superior joint supplement. It plays such a big part in keeping my horses sound.

I'm now off to England for 3 months of training with John and Laura Renwick for the 4th time. I can't wait to see what this winter has in store for me. Thanks again to mum, dad, Pauline, Barry and everyone else who works tirelessly behind the scenes so that I can do what I do with the horses. I'm so lucky to do what I love every day.

LATEST NEWS - 13/05/16

Since my arrival in the UK things have been so busy, working away on the yard and in my training with John and Laura Renwick, and now I have some rather special news to report from the Royal Windsor Horse Show where I was very fortunate to compete and take out the title in the B & C grade class (1.30m-1.35m) on the lovely C grade mare Zoralyn, by Zip Phin out of an Orlando mare on behalf of Laura & John. I can't thank you both enough for this opportunity.

Westgrove GNZ at HOY 2016

Westgrove GNZ at HOY 2016

Wow, what a huge season it has been for us and our young team. HOY was an absolute blast and I couldn't be more excited for next season already! Westgrove GNZ (Baz, in partnership with Pauline and Barry Quigley) really stepped up at the end of the season winning his first 7year old start at Otago and following that up with a 4th and 3rd at Nationals and Canterbury Champs. I was so proud of the way he handled the main ring at hoy ending up 5th in the 7year old of the Year. He also jumped his first Mini Prix at Ashburton Champ show for 5th. We are so excited for the future with this horse. Lakota (Spot) has been my mr consistent all season. He has had wins or placings at nearly every show at 125/130m culminating in 3rd in a very competitive 125 Championship at HOY. He also jumped his first Mini Prix at Ashburton for 7th. I just love riding this horse, he is so much fun for me.

Mr Tambourine Man (Tom) has had a huge year. This was his first season competing and he finished jumping clear round 125 tracks and had a 115 placing at HOY. Tom is such a joy to produce and so beautiful to ride on the flat, he will step up next season and I think he's going to be very cool. Ngahiwi Cracker placed in all of her Grand Prix starts this season, she's so brave and has given me so much confidence over the bigger fences. We will focus on getting her stronger and more conditioned for the bigger classes over winter. Calabrese (Missy) 5year old owned by Nicky Hedley finished her season with a 110 at Canterbury champs and double clears at 1m. A lovely young horse with a big future, thank you Nicky for trusting me with her this season.

We have some exciting youngsters to come out over the winter next season, 5year old Ngahiwi Double Cross grew a hand over summer and after some very positive outings early on we decided to let him finish growing and just worked on him quietly at home. A huge thank you to the support crew at home, mum, dad, super groom Georgina Allan, Pauline and Barry for all your support and patience this year and every other year. I think we should all be so excited for the future. Thank you to my long time sponsors Rangiora Equestrian Supplies, I can't recommend them enough. Baz just loves his beautiful Waldhausen sheepskin. I have now flown off to England and am working with John and Laura Renwick for the 3rd time now. John's bootcamp started the day I got off the plane and I'm loving it!

LATEST NEWS - 05/11/2015

I am really delighted with the progress of the horses this season. They have all stepped up confidently and I am excited to see how they continue to progress.

Ngahiwi Cracker has been consistantly placed in her Mini Prix and Pro-Am classes. She will be stepping up to Grand Prix soon, exciting times!

Westgrove GNZ (Baz) has really settled in to his work this season. The training with Vaughn Jeffris has been instrumental in getting him softer and more relaxed and this is really showing in his jumping. He has stepped up really comfortably to 1.20 and is jumping lovely clear rounds.

Lakota (Spot) continues to be a lot of fun for me. He is consistantly winning and placing at 1.20m and I am excited for his first Pro-Am start this weekend!

Last Song (Murray) is proving to be lots of fun and I am really enjoying jumping him while he is here. He has rarely been out of the top 3 at 1.10m and 1.20m so far this season. He will be for sale soon.

Mr Tambourine Man (Tom) has stepped up to ring 1 very comfortably, jumping clear around his first 1.15m last weekend. Unfortunately Tom is for sale as I have a lot of youngsters that need my time and he will be an easy and enjoyable horse for someone to produce further. Check him out on the For Sale page.

Ellie May has been to 3 shows this year, playing in the show hunter sandpit. She is such a genuinely lovely horse to take out and was top 3 in all 6 of her show hunter classes last weekend. She had very positive comments from the judges, they all thought she could make a very classy show hunter. I know she could actually do absolutely anything. She is also for sale.

Ngahiwi Double Cross, Vogue Blue NZPH and Colours of Rain (Tay) have all been out twice this year and jumped some lovely clear rounds. Blue and Tay will now go in foal although I plan on continuing to ride Blue for another couple of months.

I am very lucky to have picked up the ride on a lovely 5year old Corofino 2 mare for the season. She will be going out for the first time in a few weeks and so far she feels very classy with a great jump and work ethic. Thanks to Nicky Hedley for sending her down to us.

We are excited to have imported some Emerald Van 'T Ruytershof semen from Holland. Emerald has been jumping Nations Cups for the Netherlands and just recently won his first World Cup in Washington. The countdown begins! Mum, Dad, Pauline and Barry have taken a real interest in breeding and we are all enjoying watching our Kannan babies from last year grow up.

A huge thanks to my supporters Rangiora Saddlery and Pauline and Barry Quigley for their continued long term support.

LATEST NEWS - 25/09/15

September heralds the beginning of Spring and the long anticipated start to the SJ season and some warmer days. Having arrived home earlier this year I have focussed of getting the team stronger and fitter and I feel they are very well prepared this year. I still have a young team of horses but I am very pleased with the progress they have made over winter.

We have also taken some time over the past couple of months to upgrade some of our facilities. We have resurfaced our arena, mixing our existing river sand/rubber with 'Surefoot' arena fibre. The fibre has improved the arena immensely and I can feel a huge difference in the way the horses are working on it. The youngsters are so much more confident and comfortable in their work and as a result I'm seeing them become stronger so much faster. We purchased an Activomed rug in July and I am delighted with how much softer and looser the horses are feeling. I believe this rug is helping me build topline in conjunction with good basic schooling AND they love it! Excitement is building for the completion of the new stable block. I can't wait to get some of the horses in!!

In July we said a sad goodbye to Elmo who couldn't have found a better home. He is with Sophie De Clifford to be produced as her new dressage superstar and I just can't wait to see them out together.

We have been incredibly lucky to have Vaughn Jeffris doing day clinics here for the last couple of months which has really kick-started my season. He has spent loads of time with me and Pauline Quigley's lovely Lansing Horse Westgrove GNZ (Baz) and we are so pleased with the results we are seeing. I love Vaughn's classical approach to teaching and he has a great group of motivated regular riders down here now. I really hope he will keep coming.

I was lucky enough to attend the South Island Young Rider camp again this year as an elite rider. I really enjoyed the coaching from Duncan McFarlane/ Helen McNaught and Sally Field-Dodgson for the 3 days. I came away with plenty to work on and feeling ready for the season. A huge thank you to the organisers of this camp, it's such a great few days.

We had our first show at Otago last weekend. Ngahiwi Cracker jumped well for a 4th in the 1.30m on Saturday and 6th in the Mini Prix on Sunday. It was only Cracker's 2nd start at this level and she felt totally comfortable. Lakota (Spot) was 2nd in his 1.10 on Saturday and felt very happy to be back in the ring after a long winter! Baz was clear in his 1.10 on Saturday and 4th in his 1.15 on Sunday, he is so classy and we are all so excited for his future. Last Song (Murray) and I were clear in our first class together and I think I'm going to have a lot of fun until he sells! Finally Mr Tambourine Man (Tom) jumped for the first time in ring one very confidently with just a green rub in the double. Being the first show back I was delighted with their progress and came home feeling only positive about all of them.

I am incredibly lucky to have Charlotte Lindo coming on as working pupil for this summer and Georgina Allan returning for another season. Exciting times ahead!

LATEST NEWS - 09/06/15

Last weekend I took 5year old Alamo BL (Elmo) to his first dressage day, actually his first time in a dressage arena. He was a wee star scoring 79% and winning his first test! He was a little distracted in his second test but still scored 66% for 3rd. It was a long day for his unfit baby brain, especially since he had his first go at cross country the day before, totally impressing me with how balanced and brave he was. Elmo is for sale, see my sales page for more details and video of his test last weekend. He really is a rising star of the future.

LATEST NEWS - 20/05/15

Unfortunately due to family circumstances I had to cut my trip to England short. I had the most fantastic two months and was lucky enough to ride some very special young horses, some of which I'm sure are going to be stars of the future. John once again gave me so many hours of help, I am so grateful to him and Laura for the time they give me and the opportunities to ride and compete some beautiful young horses. I am so fortunate to have an open invitation to return and I'm sure I will be back next winter.

One of the highlights was grooming for Laura at Windsor Horse Show, she is such a talented rider and it was so inspiring to be able to watch her and the other top riders in the ring and warm up. Coming home with 2 wins was an added bonus.

The positive in coming home early is that I have time now to fully prepare my team for the coming season and to put into practice all of the knowledge I've gleamed from John and Laura. Riding and competing in England consolidates for me how important flatwork for jumping really is. I have some lovely young horses in my team for this year and for the next few months the focus is on flatwork.

It's now full steam ahead for us over winter with most of the team back in work and some really exciting youngsters on the way.

Season Wrap Up - 30/3/2015

It's been very much a building season this season for me and my horses. I arrived home from England in September to a paddock of young horses and I've been really impressed by how they have all progressed this year. Major Highlights this season were winning the South Island Foxhunter Final with Cracker and 3rd on Spot and Runner-up National Open Show Hunter title on Spot. I haven't chased the shows this year as I have wanted to really establish the basics on the babies.

Tomorrow (31/3/2015) I head off to England to continue training with John and Laura Renwicks. I'm so excited to get over there and keep learning as much as I can from such top people.

A huge thank you to all of my supporters this season, my fantastic sponsors Rangiora Saddlery who have stood behind me for so many years now, all of the girls who have helped keep this ship running smoothly including working pupils Story Dealy-Cottrel and Charlotte Lindo, and especially super-groom Georgina Allan whose dedication to the horses is second to none. My owners, Barry and Pauline Quigley, for their endless support, and of course mum and dad who are such a driving force and instrumental in all of my successes to date and in the future.

I can't help but be excited for the future of all of our young horses.
See you all in 5months!
